You’ve set up your new WordPress website. You’ve chosen your theme. What’s next? Web design is a complicated beast but we’re here to help! A few must-have plugins that will really help to get the best results out of your WordPress website.

How do we know they’re ‘must haves’? We’ve tried them. We’ve tested them. And we know that they get the best results for our clients. If you’re interested, read on and maybe you can add some of these plugins to your own WordPress website.

First, what is a plugin?

It’s a defining feature of WordPress that allows for some serious customisation. The challenging part is already done for you. All you need to do is go to the ‘Plugins’ tab in your admin dashboard and install the plugin that best fits your needs.

We can almost guarantee that there will be a plugin or widget especially made for what your require. Need a carousel of logos on your site? You got it. Do you fancy a weather widget to add to your sidebar? You got it. Are you looking for a tool that simplifies the web design process? We got it! There are plenty of plugins to choose from and here are a few of our favourites.

1.Yoast SEO Plugin

There’s a good reason why Yoast is the #1 SEO plugin on WordPress. The Yoast SEO plugin makes sure that there ain’t no half steppin’ when it comes to using SEO on your website. You’ll be shocked at how easy it is to start ranking high on Google or any other search engine.

What may shock you more is how ahead of the game you’ll be in comparison to your competitors. SEO may be known around the world but it’s not common for it to be used to the greatest affect by small businesses.

2. Ninja Forms WordPress Plugin

Easy to set up. Easy to use. The Ninja forms plugin is a must-have for anyone looking to integrate expertly styled contact forms into their WordPress website. It’s so simple that as soon as it’s installed, you already have a pre-rendered contact form created for you.

You can choose to edit, fine-tune and style it however you like. All you have to do is click install and let the good times roll! You can go one step further by adding it to a landing page and using social media to boost your website traffic to said page – go wild!

3.WooCommerce WordPress Plugin

One of our personal favourites. WooCommerce really feels more than a plugin. It is so versatile and powerful that you will surprise yourself in how much control you can put in selling your products online. Gone are the days of managing each individual product on a system that costs thousands to set up and hundreds to monitor. WooCommerce offers a quick set up which allows you to spend less time on product admin and more time being creative with your small business.

4. Google XML Sitemaps

Here’s a more technical plugin that should not be overlooked – Google XML Sitemaps. We may have said technical but don’t switch off too soon. It’s power will really help the SEO of your website. In its simplest terms, a sitemap shows how each page is connected together. If your website is well organised and you’ve installed this helpful plugin, get ready to enjoy a solid boost in your SEO.

Bonus Plugin: Lordicons

We wouldn’t say that this particular WordPress plugin is essential but it’s certainly a fun one. Lordicons is truly spectacular when it comes to web design. What is it? Lordicons takes those generic icons that are so common across many websites and adds some serious ‘umphf’. Say hello to a smiley face emoji which widens its grin as you hover your mouse over its face.

Start it with Lordicons. Start with Lordicons if you want to take your web design out of the realms of 2010 and into 2020.

We really could go on in listing some fantastic WordPress plugins. However, part of the fun is discovering these new tools for yourselves. Another solution would be to have some dedicated web design specialists on your side. These must-have plugins will really help develop your small business website.
